SINGLE RINK SUCCESS FOR SUTTON
MEN Sutton's mens single rink team with Neil Asten
(lead), Mick Gray (two) Keith Adams (three) and Steve Shanley
(skip) has reached the quarter final stage of the London &
Southern Counties Indoor Fours Competition. Their next match will be
played at home at 6pm on Saturday the 27 February
against Sevenoaks. The winners play either Foxhill from Aylesbury or
Luton in the semi final. If you haven't booked anything up for the
27th, why not pop up to the club and support our
team?
2009/10 INDOOR SEASON As in
previous seasons the Club entered teams in all the major
competitions. Unfortunately, early performances on the green
were not as successful as last year as by the 19 October Sutton were
knocked out of two important national competitions. Both men's teams
in the Over 60s Double Rink were beaten by Wey Valley who also beat
the Club in the prestigious four-rink Denny Cup Competition on
Saturday 17 October. Sutton men now go into the Denny Plate
Competition and play White Oaks on Saturday 31
October.
Egham Trophy On Sunday 18
October the Club's mixed four-rink team beat Donyngs by six shots
thanks to big wins by rinks skipped by Keith Adams and Steve
Shanley. Next match, two rinks home and two away is on Sunday 1
November.
2008/2009 INDOOR SEASON
UPDATE The Club competed in major competitions
virtually until the end of the indoor season. The Ladies
excelled themselves by reaching the last 16 of The
Yetton national inter-club championship, but unfortunately
lost to Mid-Gloucester.
Sutton's men's team reached
the last 16 in the Denny Plate when they were beaten by a
strong Isle of Wight team.
Bryan Solway (lead), Neil

represented the Club in the London & Southern Counties Top
Four Competition, and won their first match at home against
Donyngs. The team were given walkovers in the next two rounds
by Mote Park, Maidstone, and by Eastbourne. Mick Gray came into the
team in place of Steve Shanley for the quarter final match at home
against Atherley from Southampton played on Saturday 14
February. From being 16 - 18 down after 18 ends the team fought
back to win 26 -18, a great victory over a team that had beaten
Victory, Palmerston and Worthing in the arlier rounds. In the semi
final played on the 21 March the team lost to Riverain,
Hitchin.
Sutton entered two teams in Men's National Over 60s Inter
Club Double Rinks Competition. One team had an excellent, though
surprising, first round two points win over Egham while
the other team lost to King George Field. Unfortunately, the
team lost their next match against Glebelands from North Finchley
who beat Donyngs in the first round.
CLUB
REPRESENTATIVE GAMES DURING THE 2008 OUTDOOR SEASON The
Club's two teams in the National Inter-Club Double
Rink Competition got off to a fantastic start with both sqads
winning their preliminary and first round matches. Unfortunately,
both teams lost their second round matches. After beating Croydon
'C' and Shirley Park, the 'A' team lost at home on Wednesday 4
June to Croydon 'B'. The 'B' team beat Epsom 'A' and Horley
only to lose at home on Saturday 31 May to Chipstead
'B'.
